2014 - summary

So, the summary. To be honest, my memory is pretty selective, or, if you prefer, pretty bad ;) But I'll try my best to keep it as orderly possible and not ramble to much. I didn't really think about categories to put my works into, because my this years output is rather humble. Besides, I've learned to love my own development more than successes. Thus, I just wrote below things that popped up in my head right off the bat. Let's get cracking!

Uniformity Tour 2014

Seriously, I've must have been living under a rock. How come I have never got to listen more of Dark Tranquillity? Shame on me!

I've actually made only to Amoral and Dark Tranquillity due to my day job, so the only pictures I've took are from those two performances. As usual - more crowd shots than ever, since it's Alibi venue.

So take a look and enjoy!

Shadows of the Dying Sun Over Europe 2014

I like concerts like these - when lights are great, bands do great job being themselves on stage, when I can meet friends, have a chat, beer and overall - a great time. Even small issues with Fleshgod Apocalypse lights didn't screw my mood up. The only downside of this gig - it went to history way to fast, aghrrr!

I made a full report of the event on the website I'm collaborating with, so if your polish is quite good or you wanna practise a bit - check it out here. Last thing that I want to mention is that after seeing Stam1na in a small club, it won't be easy to convince me to see them at a big festival, cause the vibe was so much better.

With no further ado - here are the pictures, so take a look and enjoy!

Mathemathics of goodbyes

There are so many words which you want to say to a friend who is leaving. They usually  come to me when someone is already gone. So you usually stand there like a jerk, saying nothing or, for worse, say some stupid clichés which sound incredibly corny if you think about them later.

In Solitude European Tour 2014 with Beastmilk and Wölfrider

I had no expectations before going to this gig. I know Wölfrider guys personally since the Crimean War and I know what kind of stuff do they play. But In Solitude and Beastmilk? Didn't rang a bell at all. So, I listened briefly to In Solitude and Beastmilk on Spotify, but I could label them only as "music to play in the background while writing a thesis". But Beastmilk intrigued me enough to grab my camera and go to Firlej.

And I have absolutely no regrets - seeing them live was a great experience (guys, I still hope to see you with Jess And The Ancient Ones on tour on day!), it was great to meet with some long time not seen friends and have a couple of beers. In Solitude was also a neat one, I liked how energetic the band was, the general vibe, despite the near-blackout state of lights which made photographing damn difficult.

Storming Across Europe 2014

I haven't been to a venue gig since last April (shooting Eläkeläiset) and going to see Alestorm and co. (despite the obvious disadvantages of shooting in a venue without photopit) felt GREAT. I mean, it felt fantastic to refresh concert photography during the time you gave up everything else to write a thesis bout concert photography ;) Cause I was slowly starting to believe I will forget how to take pictures if I won't shoot some gig any time soon.

Anyhow, here are the pictures, enjoy! Hope I'm not that rusty after the break ;)

Memory puzzles [nsfw]

A photoshoot loosely based on song "Muistipalapelit" by finnish band Stam1na. Which stands for "memory puzzles".

It's about a person who is so drunk that literally falls apart and loses his or her memories. I think it can also be her, alcohol abuse is pretty damn democratic.

The shoot is a bit nsfw, due to large amounts of fake blood, you've been warned.

Basinfirefest sortie

Antti Hyrde Hyyrynen Stam1na Basinfirefest spálené poříčí 2014

So, Basinfirefest.

I can't say a lot about it, since I was there for several hours only. Precisely I was there to see Stam1na and go back home as quickly as possible. And I was not  happy with how Basinfirewas organised though. I mean, I've been active gig participant since 2005, I've been to many various festivals and gigs. And I can say easily - I know how a festival should be arranged. I don't want to rant here, because it would take me several dozen of pages to get through basic issues, but BFF promoters - either you pull yourselves together and organise things like pros (signing sessions - where the heck they've been?; bus schedules, not informing press about rules of accreditations and then being mad that the applications didn't met the conditions) or start doing something else. For real. Like, I don't know, knitting maybe? I bet it must be interesting.

Despite that I've had a great time due to my lovely company and I am unhappy that I couldn't stay longer with them due to my everyday duties. I've also managed to take few pictures of Stam1na from the first row. Quite a new experience - I don't remember when last time I've took pictures from first row and (shame on me!) pretty damn tipsy. And I mean REALLY tipsy. Good thing is that my camera did better job than me ;) But what can one do, beers just get perfectly fine with sun and festivals :)

But enough babling, here are the pictures.

Eläkeläiset, aka who said pensioners can't rock?

Eläkeläiset

I've heard many stories on Eläkeläiset before from my finnish friend. That they make humppa covers, that they have this lovely game that they've started once upon a time, that they rock people's socks off on gigs... Later on I also learned that they once played in my hometown and after they totally demolished pretty much everything on the stage, the venue stopped functioning and festival never had another edition. Coincidence? I think not!

Civil War, Katana, Hateseed 2014

After a long, long hiatus (seriously, it was 4 months since last time I was at any gig), I finally got an opportunity to shoot a concert. Big yay, plus, I got to see some friends whom I haven't seen probably since First Punic War or even earlier. Connecting buisness with simple life pleasures is always a great thing to do. So, there wo go, as it follows: Hateseed, Katana and Civil War. Enjoy! :)
