Provinssi Festivaali 2015, day 2

19:05

After first long day I went to sleep as soon I've hit my matress, but I've slept in total for... 4-5 hours? Mainly due to my spine which hurt me like a bitch during night. Yay for festival life! So I woke up at 7 or 8 and went of to seek for some sort of a cure for my sleep shortage. After grabbing some coffee, I went to Törnävä to the festival site.

Now a question to ya all: you know all these jokes about Finns trying to catch some sun while it is still damn cold? Or stories of finnish men drinking beer in bar terraces during March while there still was buttload of snow, but they went out anyway, cause they saw that sun popped up for a minute? Well, I get you Finns now. I get you. Once I saw first glimpse of sun, I instinctively stuck myself to the sun accumulating as much warmth as I could. After 1 full day of rain it made me happy as a bag of baby otters.

Don't get me wrong here, the festival was still suffering from yesterday's rainfalls, but it started to feel more passable. Kind of the feeling like one lovely meme described - "that day in March where it's really warm and you get irrationally optimistic".

First gig I attended that day was Kaija Koo at Mainland Stage. With an energy of Tina Turner and equally raspy and powerful voice, Kaija gave quite a performance. I only regret that I wasn't able to understand what she was singing about, because my finnish is still pretty much non-existent. I've heard she wasn't pampered by life recently and singing is a way of dealing with it for Kaija. Well, got another reason to work hard and learn :)

Next on my list was often recommended to me CMX. I can't really say that I fell in love with them instatnly. I think I'd have to listen to them a bit more, so they could grow on me.

Teksti-TV 666 gig was quite pleasant music-wise. It was this hypnotic, kinda trance like experience, delievered to us by 4 guitarists that were part of the group.

Kent was recommended to me by few people. Later I've heard that this particular gig of Swedes was less entertaining or emotional than their other performances. I have to admit that I liked it. Kent is very melancholic, but at the same time very... for a lack of better word, dear. Also, the sun showed up at their concert which probably another reason why I think so warm of them :)

Oh, Rytmihäiriö, Rytmihäiriö. I can't spell your name properly, but I have a confession to make. I LOVE your gigs. That's right. I have hard time listening to surma core thingy, but be my witness everyone, I will go to your every single gig I will be able to attend in future. There, I got it out of myself. I have also a few questions. Like: are you guys endorsed by Gambina and why does it looks suspiciously similar to a polish cheap wine? And where can I taste it? Also, a question to the organisers: why on Earth haven't you fed those poor things? Some of them started to eat the stage decor at one point :D You gotta deliever them a proper catering next time ;)

It's not a secret that I'm not the biggest fan of hip hop music. I used to listen to some tracks of polish hh legends back in the day, like Kaliber 44, but novadays I'm rather ignorant towards this genre. So the performance of raper Elastinen was rather in the "meh" category for me. Plus, I don't have a clue what he raps about, so...

Death From Above 1979 gig on the other hand felt way better than the predecessor. Indie rock, although not my favourite genre, is always yummy, healthy and great to listen to. This canadian duo is the best example of it. And despite the fact that Island Stage was quite empty, both Jesse Keeler and Sebastien Grainger were capable of making their show damn entrertaining and were able to attract attention. Kudos, guys!

Fink was a soothing experience, the one that falls in under "singer-songwriter" category in my dictionary. It was nice, but no fireworks for me in particular.

As for The Script... I firmly believe that I'm not the target audience of this band (since I've graduated from high school about an eternity ago), but I can clearly see why people are going crazy about them. They are ungodly catchy and equally as energetic. And with a oh-so-slight trace of irish folky element. What can I say, that kind of combo makes it impossible to stay still at one spot.

I have to admit, I like well made elctronic music. Heck, recently I've been listening to The Glitch Mob album like crazy, 24/7, non-stop. Something tells me though that I will most likely add Foxes to my everyday playlist. Her voice is so reassuring and calming, it makes one relaxed instantly. And somewhat she made those 3 songs I was allowed to photograph her in the photopit seem like a whole eternity (not that I'm complaining about it). Plus, she is gorgeous to look and photograph! I tend to say that photos of ladies onstage are always more interesting than men, but Foxes simply hits the jackpot with her gestures, facial expressions and even styling. Just look at her!

Turbonegro also stroke jackpot. Looking like a Rocky Horror Picture Show extras and playing this neat little hybrid of punk and heavy metal (seriously, why I have never ever bumped into them before? I would love punk much more than I ever did, thanks to those peeps). Totally me gusta.

I can't really say that I saw Calvin Harris... Since he allowed only a limited amount of photogs into photopit (I wasn't among the lucky ones) and he was installed with his set on a pretty big platform, on an already big stage. So I could only see a tiny dude from a distance. Besides he had plenty of pyros like smoke and fireworks which covered the whole stage nearly completely. But I can't say he can't make people party like crazy.

After Calvin Harris I slowly started walking towards Pink Stage to shoot second show of Stam1na on Provinssi. This evening was dedicated to "Viimeinen Atlantis", sort of a concept album which happens to be the one very dear to me. Needless to say I was awaiting this one the most.

As much as I loved the show with visuals in the background and more a storytelling instead of a classic gig approach, my camera actually struggled a lot with the screens and all the action that happened there. Ever tried to take pictures while strobe lights are on? It was similar, this time though, my Nikon perceived the screens as set of dots, not as a whole picture. Aaaand usually it took picture of the dark phase, when nothing was on the screen. But despite all that, I loved this show and at a lot of times I felt simply touched (I dare you, you just can't get a tiny bit emotional while listening to songs like Viimeinen Atlantis, especially when they got such a great guest to play at this song, namely Perttu Kivilaakso of Apocalyptica).
