Provinssi Festivaali 2015, day 4

11:18

Phew, the last day of the festival. I was already getting tired and the lack of sleep started to get a gripe on me. I guess sleeping for 4-5 hours every night wasn't the best idea. But oh what the heck, resting is for the weak, especially on the festival, am I rite? ;)

Scandinavian Music Group which I shot the first didn't really help to wake me up. I mean, girls were lovely and so was the music... But I was so sleepy that I just stood there, taking pictures and praying for something entertaining to happen. Well, probably cause I'm an atheist and I suck at praying, nothing really happened :(

Second in line was Softengine. Worth noting was that as young are, they were representing Finland at Eurovision contest last year. I got to know it recently  and you wouldn't be able to tell it judging just by looking at them. They play pop music, but it can definitely get more aggresive at times.

Who followed was Kasmir, finnish pop singer, who I've thought for some reason was a rapper. Still, as long as my finnish won't get better, I can't really say much. It went sort of this singer-songwriter alley, but with a slight trace of electronic.

Jenni Vartiainen is a finnish pop singer which made me reconsider my musical likings. Right after Chisu, whom I also like a lot, but that's another story. Seriously, her songs are simply lovely. Her stage decor also stole my heart - flowing sort of sashes that flew with every gentle blow of the wind.

Who followed was Stig. Nooo, not that dude from Top Gear, the finnish r&b and country singer. I've heard that Stig is simply a stage persona of that particular artist that seems like sort of a redneck (I think...?).

Those are another guys whom I could see endless amount of times and still be entertained - Grave Pleasures, formerly known as Beastmilk. I've photographed them in the past, but due to insufficent light I think I didn't do well. So I was eager to re-photograph them and do better. I think it went better than last time. Btw, guys, if you are reading this - I'm still waiting for the Jess And The Ancient Ones/Grave Pleasures tour, keep that in mind ;)

First Aid Kit followed... and again I nearly doze off. I don't know, maybe because my ears are so burned with years of listening to heavy stuff. Or maybe because I listen to similar tunes when I wanna relax... Indie folk combination served by swedish duo was indeed neat, but nothing was really happening on the stage. It was a snoozefest for me, sorry ladies.

Every Time I Die made me wake up in 3 seconds. What a relief! I think Americans even topped Raised Fist in stage crazies. One of my favourite from the quite big core squad from Provinssi.

I think it was the only gig I attended on tiny Sakko stage. Apina is a young band from Oulu and they play this nu metal thingy. I went to their gig out of curiosity, since I knew they've once supported Stam1na and Mokoma on a few gigs here and there. And they were, well, alright. I will have to check more of them at home.

It's also not a secret that I'm the biggest fan of dub step, also refered by me as robo-farts. I don't know, I simply couldn't listen to such music while on my way to work, since it's damn tiresome. But live though - Krewella simply kicked ass!

Apulanta followed Krewella. They are this cult hard rock/punk band from the 90ties. Today they are more on the softer, pop rock style, but don't forget, they are still rockers! And they are totally able to surprise the listener with heavier riffs and certainly not smooth and polished vocals.

Australian dudes from Parkway Drive, being another metalcore band in the mix, gave this time me a certain disease. Which was a heavy finger on a shutter. Seriously, when so much is happening on stage, I can't simply stand like a jerk and do nothing in the pit :)

After Parkaway Drive, I slowly moved to the Mainland Stage to see the last gig of Stam1na. This one was dedicated to their latest album SLK. With just a simple backdrop with a ground sign and nothing else, I didn't expect much... And boy, was I wrong.

Yes! Pyros! And we were allowed to stay in the pit during gig! And thus we could catch some warmth! :D
But I digress. SLK gig was fabulous crowning to the past few days. At first I was a bit surprised that they didn't go for Raja album, but I guess SLK gave more of a closure to all things. Which made me realise that I got simply sad. Spoiled by 4 days streak of Stam1na gigs I discovered myself to feel surprisingly down. Thankfully guys ended up the last show with Lääke (warning, nsfw!) song which makes me giggle every time I think of the clip. That so I wasn't as down as I thought I will be ;)
I hope I'll be able to see them somewhere in near future in continental Europe, like the last autumn, in an indoors venue, where they really shine the most. I already miss their energy and songs, dammit.

After Stam1na I've had some time to kill before Faith No More almighty, so I headed to Island Stage to see Refused. I've somehow never been into punk in general and it seems like hardcore punk isn't my cup of tea also. But I remember that I enjoyed photographing them.

I also dropped by to see (although "see" is not the best word to describe it...) a bit of Above & Beyond, a british progressive trance group:

Above & Beyond Provinssi Festivaali 2015 Seinäjoki

And then the time came. The stars became aligned. The planets were in the right position... yeah, you know the drift. Ladies and gents, almighty Faith No More!

To be honest, it took me a while and friends' remark to figure out what all stage props were supposed to mean. Flowers and white backdrop? What the hell? All I gotta say is that I thankfully don't have to visit funeral homes that often. Especially those with disco balls hanging from the ceiling although that would be quite entertaining (regarding the circumstances)... But I again digress.

Gig went off with new piece, Motherfucker which sort of grew stronger and stronger, which was excellent song to start with. I wouldn't expect them to choose this one, but I can clearly see why they did so. And it also felt damn fun to howl "get the mother fucker on the phone" along with Mike Patton :D

Then, believe it or not, I experienced probably for the first time something I heard happens sometimes to my friends. My hearing turned off in a way and I simply fought to get the best picture I could (hell knows when I'm going to shoot FNM again, so I definitely should kill my shutter on that gig). It came back around the time of Epic where I started to howl the song like crazy, not giving a damn what everyone else thinks. You just can't stand still while this song, period!

Then I've heard from a befriended photographer that she heard we actually can enter the Ferris Wheel for free as media. Never heard about it, but, oh what the heck, it's not like someone will punch us for asking anyway. It also worth a try since the line of people who were going to pay for the ride was h u g e. I was certain that the gig would end by the time we'd get to the Ferris Wheel.
And guess what.
Then it turned out that we actually can get a free ride.
Damn, how I regretted that I didn't knew it during Calvin Harris gig, those pyros would look awesome from this height!

So we got into the car with one other photographer. I quickly realised that 3 feelings were fighting for dominance withing me. Namely:

1. "Awww yiss! I'm riding on a Ferris Wheel during Faith No More, awesome, WHEEEEE!"
2. "Crap, this thing is sure spinning around and is out of balance due to the panzerfaust-like lens of the third photog, NOT RADICAL!"
3. "CRRRRAP, I really oughta take some photos, let's do some continuos shooting! Snap snap snap!"

In other words: shooting from a Ferris Wheel is fun!

After that I've went to VIP area with a friend to have a good look at Faith No More gig. And have some drinks. And chat. More or less in that order.

And, sadly enough, that's about it. I was happy to be a part of Provinssi for 4 days. As always, it ended right when I got adjusted to the festival life and was willing to accept normality suspended for good. Which is, too soon!
At this point I'd like to tip my hat to the organisers of Provinssi. It was well thought and well done festival. I am eager to see how the festival will develop, cause it is heading in a really interesting direction. Also, I'd love to see next years' edition top this years event. It's going to be hard, cause this years line up was damn sweet, but hey - I know you can do that, guys! :)
Thanks to everybody I've met there, the photogs, the security, all other acquaintances that I've made around the festival area - I do really hope we could meet up again one day, maybe even next year on Provinssi :)

Onwards to 2016!
