Taylor Davis at Bush Hall, London

I have a confession to make. A pretty long one.

I'm a gamer. Since I can remember. First it was all these DOS games that we've played with my friends like Lemmings, Worms, Kosmonaut, Duke Nukem or Doom III (though today, I think it's safe to say that we shouldn't really play Doom at the age of 7... but, still, it was exciting!). All the Disney stuff - Lion King, Aladdin. Ha, I won't even start counting how many hours I've spent playing Heroes of Might And Magic III (I still think it's the best one). But the true love started with Final Fantasy series. I saw the concept arts of Final Fantasy VIII by Tetsuya Nomura in a Playstation magazine somewhere and I just fell head over heels. I am very visual person, so yes, that was indeed enough for me to want it. I just convinced myself that I have to play this darn game, period. It's quite hard to argue with 11 year olds, so I got my copy of this 4CDs worth of glory for Christmas. And that way, slowly I got stuck in Final Fantasies (not that I complain) forever and now I'm probably bound to play every single game in the franchise, even if it is one big nonplayable mess (I'm looking at you, FF XIII).

So, when I heard that there is lady that does violin covers of Final Fantasy themes and also other game songs and she happens to play in London soon, I wasn't objecting much to go and photograph the show. Listening to real instrument arrangements of some of game music themes always gave me goosebumps. Especially when you are used to a bit farty SNES version and then hear this beauty.

I mean, I knew how she looked like, but by her humble demeanour you'd never be able to tell that she's star of the evening. She was able to blend perfectly in. In her Zelda hoodie, jeans and sneakers she looked like one of fans. It took me a while to do the math and realise that "Oooh, so the lady with whom everyone is taking pics must be the performer!". Atmosphere almost felt like she was talking to her friends whom she'd knew for years. Big props to you, Taylor!

Soon after the gig begun. Then my heart was stolen yet again. Whoever begins their gig with a loading screen from Final Fantasy VII deserves a big round of applause ;)
All in all, the show was relatively small, but it created a sense of intimacy which sometimes is way more enejoyable than 2 hours of pure raw metal energy.
